| So, now that the internet doesn't work in my office, I never take the time to update this thing. Funny how when I first started Xanga, I was so obsessed with it and couldn't wait to update. Now, I'm pretty much over it.
Anyway, I'm thankful that my life is starting to settle down some. I was actually able to spend some time at home this week. God has been teaching me so much lately, which makes me keenly aware of how dangerous being busy can be. I so easily lose focus, and then wonder why it is that my spiritual life is mediocre at best. I'm thankful for times this week that I could just "sit with God for a while" (to quote some random worship song).
F.Y.I. -- For those of you who'll be in town next Saturday, we're planning a games day up here and will all be heading over to the ONLY ULM home track meet of the season. Come support Sarah, Bob, Brynna, and Tisha!
| How 'bout it take me forever to update?!? Get this...I found out two days ago that I'm going to get to walk in my seminary graduation next month. I'll have to finish up the two classes I have left before July, and God totally worked it out. It's cool b/c I thought that I either wouldn't get to walk and they'd just have to mail me my diploma (boring), or that if I did walk, it'd be with no one that I knew since I'd been gone so long (lame). So...God worked it all out to be an unexpected blessing. YEA!!! | | |
| Oh, and my sweet ULM babies gave me a surprise party last night. I am so blessed. :) | | |
| Here I stand again, typing on these lame Macs. I just can't fathom why I struggle so much to type on them. At any rate...yesterday was my 27th birthday. OH MY GOSH!!! WHEN DID I GET SO OLD?!? I didn't really expect much, but when we woke up to a beautiful, sunny day, when rain was forecasted, I knew it'd be a great day. We started out by going downtown and pulling over for a quick picture break. Words cannot describe the grandeur of the Pacific Ocean meeting the lush countryside. "Reminds me of Ireland," someone commented very accurately. What an awesome Maker we serve!
The rest of the morning was spent interacting with people downtown and gaining more insight into what IS Victoria. It's funny how something like a hick accent can spark conversation. Even the "scholarly" museum employees couldn't help but ask the question of the week, "Where are you from?"
We came again to the UVic campus to prayerwalk, specifically at the Interfaith Chapel. Even the fact that the Christians must share a worship center with Wiccans and Muslims shows the spiritual state of the people here. While there, we ran into several Christian guys who had been praying for their school. It was definitely a divine appointment. As we prayed with them, it was evident that they were encouraged. Several conversations took place on campus throughout the afternoon, but even as I looked for someone to talk to, I was convicted of how I struggle with a lack of boldness. May I constantly be seeking to know where God is working and willing to jump right in. I need to be more sensitive to the Spirit.
I know this is long...
Today has been spent on campus again. Brynna and I just spent about 2 hours in the on-campus pub talking with a girl named Lauren and the bartender. Both conversations were very productive. Lauren happened to be majoring in classical studies and taking a Christianity in Rome class. She's agnostic, but how crazy that this stupid seminary class provided some common ground for us to talk. We've been studying the same thing! God's so amazing! We bought her lunch, which blew her away and ended up getting her email address. I pray that somehow she'll leave wondering and willing to explore Christ in this faith journey she's on.
Well, I am getting carpal tunnel's b/c of this keyboard, so I'm going to go back on campus. Only 2 more days left...Pray for me specifically b/c Mark had to head on back. Becky's in CHARGE!
| I am currently standing in the library at the University of Victoria, trying to type on a Mac. GRRR...I hate these computers. Oh well...
Last night was a restless night for me, and since we had to be in the cars and ready to go at 5 a.m., I spent the first part of the day in a sleepy fog. Nevertheless, the morning was filled with sights of Puget Sound and beautiful evergreen-covered mountain peaks. The 3 hour ferry ride allowed time for a quick nap, but also provided a great opportunity for God to demonstrate his sense of humor and unique way of "just working things out." While walking around, Mark "happened" to see a guy reading his Bible. Conversation ensued, and the guy turned out to be a strong believer from Victoria. He ended up telling us about his parents' church right off campus and invited us to their weekly meal. We dropped Tim off at his house with plans to reconnect later in the week and headed off to get settled in.
Tonight, we went to Emmanuel Baptist and ate dinner with about 75 college kids. The students that Joel and I ate with, Margaret and Tyler, invited us to Friday night's InterVarsity meeting. I think this would be a great opportunity to learn from and encourage these students' ministry. Hopefully, we'll try to go. The coolest part of tonight is the fact that we'll probably try to partner with this church in the future. How cool that even at the very outset of this trip, God is laying the groundwork for future work here.
Well, I'm very much past my 5 minute limit on this thing. Sorry this is so scattered. There's just so much to process. Continue to pray for us.
Oh, and here's a random, funny memory...There was this middle-aged lady on the ferry, who, for the entire 3 hours that we were on there, sped walked through the ship. She was even wearing a fanny pack! LOL!!!
